Mechanical Monstrosity

The frosty cold nipped at K'lektu's scales. He shuffled under his fur cloak, tightening it. Best not to tempt fate and leave an opening for it to seep into his body. Already, he could feel the muscles in his body tensing up and slowing down. You might survive this cold for about two hours, but the effects kick in almost immediately after exposure.

           

He glanced back, making sure nothing was stalking them in the heavy snow, before his eyes fell back onto the clawed footprints of his brethren. The others in his hunting party led the way. In total, nine reptilian figures trudged through the snow before him.

            

"Any sign of the Gargoth yet?" K'lektu asked.

            

One of the figures turned her head back to speak. The scales on her face gracefully reflected the sky's light. "Patience, brother. We still have time and its scent lingers in the air. We will be upon it soon."

K'lektu's tail twitched as he walked. "Sorry. I am uneasy. Something doesn't feel right- hasn't felt right since we left the tunnels."

           

 She stopped. The others followed her lead. "A premonition?"

            

"No. Just a feeling."

            

She tilted her head up to the sky. It was impossible to see anything through the blizzard. Both the sky and the earth were endlessly white. They stood in an empty canvas...
